DJ Zan D Apologizes To Okmalumkoolkat After Excluding Him From His Top 5 Lyricists List

The most recent development in this ever-evolving landscape revolves around DJ Zan D offering a sincere and heartfelt apology to none other than Okmalumkoolkat. This unexpected turn of events follows DJ Zan D’s recent Facebook post in which he excluded Okmalumkoolkat from his Top 5 Lyricists list.

The list included notable names like Prod Kid, Proverb, Stogie T, Reason and Kwesta. However, conspicuously absent from his selection was Okmalumkoolkat, a rapper known for his unique style and exceptional lyricism.

The exclusion of Okmalumkoolkat from the list raised eyebrows among fans and fellow artists alike, sparking a heated debate on social media platforms. Many fans expressed their surprise and disappointment, while others questioned DJ Zan D’s criteria for his ranking.

Amongst the people who aired their views was Okmalumkoolkat himself who could not also understand what criteria are used to rank lyricists in SA Hip-hop.

“I never cared about top bani-bani lists but I think now I kinda understand who gets on those lists and who doesn’t. I am a scholar of Hip Hop and Rap and from what I understand about rhythm and poetry, the main thing is originality and relability. I cover both by miles compared to my peers. So I would like to know from the comments below. What makes a dope lyricist in a South African context since we are in Msawawa?” Wrote Okmalumkoolkat.

In response to the growing backlash, DJ Zan D took to Twitter and addressed the controversy stating that he apologized to Okmalumkoolkat. The prominent DJ said that he has so much respect towards the Durban rapper.

“I respect @okmalumkoolkat profusely. He is one of the greatest to ever do it. I’ve apologized about my statement to him directly and we have addressed the situation. I won’t be replying to each and everyone about this matter any further. Lesson learned: we need to narrate and document our culture accurately to avoid confusion and misinformation in future,” he wrote.

In the spirit of camaraderie, Okmalumkoolkat acknowledged DJ Zan D’s apology stating that the two are in good books. “Sharratz to @djzand it’s all love, it’s always good to learn from the greats,” wrote Okmalumkoolkat.
