The veteran rapper and media personality has engaged with the culture on multiple fronts, actively creating music and meticulously documenting essential aspects of South African Hip Hop history. With all that he has done for the culture, Rashid shared that he has encountered different experiences with different people throughout his career.

In a recent interview on the State Of The Game Podcast, the rapper was prompted to discuss the legacy he envisions for himself within the South African Hip Hop culture. “What is your end goal as Rashid Kay and what do you want to be remembered for as a pioneer?”

In response Rashid Kay said; “different people will remember me for different things because in life you interact with people differently. There’s a person who met me for the first time when I was in a bad mood that’s his ever-lasting impression, he will always remember me like that.”

The “Sukuma Bak’bone” chanter added that he cannot force people to remember him the same way considering the different experiences and encounters. “I cannot force or expect people to remember me the same way. I know people see me as the Hip Hop guy, some call me the gatekeeper whatever, but whatever you think you know. A lot of people assume until they meet me,” he added.

Renowned for his participation in numerous hip-hop initiatives and gatherings, Rashid Kay has persistently championed providing platforms for emerging artists and creating spaces where they can showcase their skills and connect with established figures in the industry.
