In a recent tweet, DJ Zan-D took a moment to support fellow DJs facing criticism for spinning old tunes. The YFM radio DJ pointed out that sometimes the audience’s lack of enthusiasm for new music leads DJs to include familiar tunes in their sets, striking a balance to keep the energy flowing on the dance floor.

“Every year it’s the same jokes about SA Hip Hop Djs BUT you guys don’t dance to new music. Ask yourself why clubs keep booking the Djs that play the old sh*t? The consumer doesn’t react to new music. Why do you think Soul Djs keep playing 80’s music?

“It’s because you guys keep supporting and showing love to that sh*t. Yes, a great Dj will find the balance… but you consumers are also to blame. Eish I forgot I had said I will never entertain this topic again. Yoh mara, every year it’s the same jokes.” Wrote DJ Zan-D.

Nadia Nakai has also criticized SA Hip Hop DJs for not playing new music as she specifically mentioned DJ Milkshake for not playing new SA Hip Hop songs. I’m so sick of hip-hop deejays!!! I’m actually dropping hip-hop joints and you dont play the sh*t.  Used to fight D about it too!!! @djmilkshake I’m talking about you!! Mxm how many times you gonna play all I do is win! Mxm!” said Nadia.
