K.O Vs Kwesta, Emtee Vs Saudi, AKA vs Cassper: JR Makes His Picks

K.O Vs Kwesta, Emtee Vs Saudi, AKA vs Cassper: JR Makes His Picks! Rapper and entrepreneur, JR recently was in the hot seat on MacG and Sol Phenduka’s podcast, when he had to choose which Mzansi rapper he prefers, between some of Mzansi well-known hip hop rivals. The versus was an interesting one, as MacG presented the rapper with some tough duo’s but he was able to pick and his choices were not all based on loyalty but also on the work, the rappers have put in.

Kicking off the game, One Must Go, JR is asked to choose between new kids on the scene Blxckie and Lucas Rap, the rapper chooses the star of Apple’s Music Africa Rising campaign, Blxckie to stay. Without hesitation, JR says “Lucas Raps” should go, he then goes on to explain “I don’t know him very well but I am a fan of Blxckie, so I don’t know Lucas Raps quite well even his music, I don’t know, not just personally but I’m a fan of Blxckie.” JR even gave props to Blxckie’s track Sika, calling it his favourite by the young rapper.

The next duo up for the rapper was Emtee and Saudi, which saw rapper Saudi going. The choice was another easy one for JR to make, which made him wonder if the game was “a serious one”. MacG and Sol responded and told him that it was, with Sol chiming in and saying “it’s just the options are pap”. Sol then gave JR another duo to choose from, Tuks vs HHP. “Tuks must go,” both Sol and MacG were surprised by JR’s choice but he explained that he is good at separating his emotions from his decisions.

He was then hit with K.O versus Kwesta, which saw JR pause for a bit. “I K.Oed him,” MacG exclaimed. JR ended up going with K.O going, “the reason that I say is this is because I saw Kwesta more recent than I saw K.O. So I am basing it off that.” JR then explained that after running out of things to base the cancellation, he thought of when last did he see the rappers.

MacG then asked JR “what do you think of K.O?” “I think he is phenomenal, I think he is the most consistent rapper, that we’ve had in the game over the past 10 years. For me rapper of the decade no doubt,” responded JR. “It’s not even about accolades, whatever, whatever. Im talking about finess’, cadence, raps, lyrics all of that. He can go pound for pound and also from a commercial appeal situation, K.O is still today relevant.” JR went on to explain that K.O is still relevant even after his Teargas days, which dropped their hit single ‘Chance’ the year before he dropped his music and he is “dead” and K.O is alive.

Between Shane Eagle and A-Reece, JR chose Shane to go, MacG then asked JR about the current state of his relationship with Shane. “We cool, We weren’t cool for a while, but we cool”. JR then went to explain what made them not cool, which was according to him some issues from an employee perspective. JR was then asked Big Xhosa and Ifani and the response had MacG and Sol laughing. “Both must die,” JR shared that “both must go, but not in a bad way”.

The last duo AKA and Cassper, had Sol saying “obvious” even before JR answered the question. “Cassper’s got to go,” JR said with Sol saying “it was obvious, he wrote songs with AKA”, MacG then let Sol know that JR has also written songs with Cassper. JR explained that he has had hits with both artists but his decision is because he knows just how much work AKA puts into his music, as he has an inside view to that, which he cannot say for Cassper.

JR had some tough decisions to make on the hot seat but he was able to justify each one he made.
