Proverb & Stogie T Give Lessons On Word Play In Rap. Most Hip hop enthusiasts know that rap music is more than just about sound, tempo and hooks but more the words and how they used. Stogie T gave a lesson on the topic of word play which can be applicable not only in poetry but story-telling and poems as well.

“‘we ON AIR like asthma pumps’ when you on radio you are on air, and when you need a pump you are on air. I often use this technique when writing, you flip a simple simile by using a different image. This is what they call a double entendre, saying 1 thing that means another, he explained making reference to part of the lyrics of one of his songs.

“The use of the words are the trick here. It wouldn’t work to say ‘on radio like asthma pumps’ but an different example meaning the same would be ‘I am radio active like X Rays’ that would work. Thanks for listening,” he added.

Proverb chimed in the talk by further elaborating on word play and how the same word can be arranged for different purposes in a sentence.

“In this instance that was the whole point. The wordplay was to achieve just that, play with the same set of words in different combinations & sequences to construct multiple lines that all made sense and still rhymed. So the same words were repurposed throughout the piece.”
