Alleged Suspects In AKA’s Murder Case Reportedly Released

According to IOL, three suspects were arrested on Sunday in connection with the brutal killing of AKA and Tibz outside the Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. Netwerk24 also collaborated with the reports adding that two more suspects were apprehended making the number to five. This came after the DNA and fingerprints were extracted from the alleged getaway car which was used on the day of the shooting.

According to the publication, the three suspects were released in the middle of the night on Wednesday as per their legal representative. The released men have reportedly gone into hiding as they fear for their lives after their images were circulated on social media.

Van den Heever stated that the CAS number used to arrest the individuals was incorrectly registered on the SAPS system prior to their pretrial hearing on Thursday. “The police had no reasonable cause to arrest my clients. They allowed the narrative of my clients being linked to the AKA investigation and didn’t comment at the time. Then yesterday, they issue a statement,” said an angry Van den Heever as per IOL.

“Police have leaked information about them being arrested for AKA’s murder, but they are saying nothing to us. My clients don’t know what is going on.”

It’s not clear what will be the police’s next move after this since Minister Bheki Cele clearly indicated that his team is cracking the case. “We acknowledge it’s not with the speed that the community would’ve loved and the nation would’ve loved to see, but mark the space we’re cracking the case.” He said.
