Speaking on SA Hip Hop Reloaded, the Klerksdorp star said Rocky discovered him off the strength of the “Memoirs” music video. “I went to New York, and A$AP Rocky saw my stuff. So A$AP Rocky saw my music video for ‘Memoirs’ and he sent his guys, like yo, I wanna speak with this guy,” Maglera recalled. “And when I was shooting Lia Butler – ‘Imimangaliso’ music video he called me for the PUMA collab.”

According to Maglera, Rocky didn’t just send a DM and dip. He brought the South African rapper straight into his orbit. “The first time I went to New York was A$AP Rocky finding me down, go shoot with him. We spent like 4–5 days in New York. I was with Rocky most of the days after shooting,” he said.

In a moment that stitched the scenes together—Harlem to the North West—Rocky even rapped one of Maglera’s own records back to him. “The first song that Rocky rapped for me was ‘018’ and he rapped Cassper’s chorus,” Maglera shared.

The story paints a picture of how far Maglera’s visual language and storytelling have travelled, and how a co-sign from one of fashion and hip hop’s key tastemakers can translate into brand opportunities. With PUMA in the mix and international doors opening, Maglera’s New York chapter reads like an intersection of timing, taste, and relentless output—proof that a homegrown video can ripple all the way to a global stage.
