The South African music industry was rocked to its core when news of AKA’s untimely passing emerged in February of this year. Fans, fellow musicians, and friends of the talented rapper expressed their grief and condolences across social media platforms. Among those mourning the loss of AKA was his longtime friend and colleague, Emtee.

In an interview on L-Tido Podcast, Emtee opened up about the last moments he shared with AKA, providing insight into their relationship and the profound impact AKA had on his life and career. Emtee is one of the artists featured on AKA’s posthumous album Mass Country on the track titled Crown.

The self-proclaimed Big Hustler said that the last time he saw AKA was when they recorded Crown and AKA left encouraging last words to Emtee. “He was one of the people who loved me for me, never judged me. What’s crazy is that the last time I saw him was when we were recording Crown,” Emtee said.

“His last words to me were, stay safe, stay alive, then he hugged me and the hug was so long, I think it was like ten seconds, he hugged me. Im big on energy, and I was unsettled after that because I know him as get up and go type of guy, but that day he was humble,” Emtee added.

As South Africa continues to mourn the loss of a true musical icon, it is clear that AKA’s influence will continue to reverberate through the lives and careers of those he inspired, including his dear friend Emtee.
