Collaborating with numerous rappers, producers, and DJs, AKA’s untimely departure left an indelible mark on the South African music industry, reflecting the profound impact he had on the landscape. One of the SA Hip Hop personnel to have a long-term working relationship with the Supa Mega is the famed DJ Fanatic.

The renowned DJ and prolific hitmaker collaborated with AKA for more than a decade, and their professional relationship experienced its fair share of ups and downs, akin to any other long-term working partnership. With AKA reaching a year after his passing last year in February, DJ Fanatic took time to remember the rapper’s lasting impact on SA Hip Hop through his flamboyant and well-curated music.

Taking to Twitter (X), DJ Fanatic revealed that he’s been playing some of AKA’s finest tracks, expressing disbelief at the realization that there won’t be any more of AKA’s remarkable music. The DJ further shared that immersing himself in AKA’s music prompted reflections on the wonderful moments they had shared during their 11-year collaboration.

“Chilling with my Boi and we bumping some of AKA’s greatest joints…the fact that we never gonna get anymore gems from him is really heart breaking…. Making me think of all memories we made in the 11 years of working together,” wrote DJ Fanatic.

Despite their professional collaboration coming to an end, rumours circulated about a fallout between AKA and DJ Fanatic, a claim vehemently denied by the latter. DJ Fanatic clarified that he and Kiernan Forbes (AKA) had always maintained a positive relationship.

“The misunderstanding that the public has about me not working with AKA is that we had a “fallout,” and that’s actually nonsense we never had a fallout,” he told SA Hip Hop Mag via the Episode Podcast. “Me and he had never had beef, yes we’ve had our fights like any other brotherhood. For me and him, it was more than just a friendship it became a brotherhood,” he added.
