Speaking about the origins of his name, Tweezy explained that Lil Wayne has always been his GOAT and that he used to mimic the rapper’s cadence and style when he was coming up.

At the time, Tweezy was part of a rap group called Ghetto Prophecy with several of his friends. His group members began noticing the similarities between his delivery and Lil Wayne’s, eventually giving him a nickname inspired by the Young Money legend.

“All my homies that I was in a rap group with, I was in a rap group called Ghetto Prophecy. They were like, ‘Ayo, man, you rap like you’re Lil Wayne,’” he recalled.

The name eventually evolved from Weezy to Tweezy, giving him a stage identity that stuck.

“So, instead of Weezy, it’s Tweezy,” he explained.

The revelation offers a glimpse into the early influences that shaped Tweezy before he became known for his work within South Africa’s hip-hop and music production scene.
