The South African hip-hop heavyweight took to social media on Sunday morning to thank his supporters, explaining how their response during his performances pushes him beyond what he believes he can do on stage.

“Aye man I’m one hell of a performer neh but the love I get from yall when I’m stage makes me get into a trance and I just morph into something that’s bigger than me or my ability. The shows I did last night were just epic. Kea Leboga bafethu. Modimo a le okeletse,” he wrote.

Nyovest performed at the Jozi Kota Festival on 3 October, joining a star-studded lineup that included Makhadzi, Amanda Black, Kamo Mphela, Nasty C, A-Reece and Emtee. The Johannesburg festival, which combines kota culture with live entertainment, was held under the theme “EZASE MZANSI: iDiski.”

Videos from the event showed Nyovest commanding the stage as he fed off the crowd’s response. His performances drew strong reactions from festivalgoers, with some fans taking to social media to praise his ability to connect with audiences.

One attendee called him “The best,” while another praised his standing in South African hip-hop, writing that “nobody does it better than you in the Hip Hop scene.” Another fan recalled screaming when Nyovest walked onto the stage after waiting throughout the day for his performance.

For Nyovest, the reaction from his audience appears to be an important part of what makes his live performances special. His comments suggest that the energy he receives from fans can push him into a different state when he performs, allowing him to go beyond what he considers his normal abilities.
