The collaboration with fellow South African rap star YoungstaCPT, serves as a vibrant homage to the genre’s rich history and enduring impact. The music video, directed by Moody Visualz weaves together scenes that pay tribute to various elements of hip-hop.

From breakdancing in graffiti-adorned locales to YoungstaCPT’s impactful verses, every scene resonates with nostalgia. The addition of Grandmaster Ready D’s legendary turntable scratches serves as a notable tribute to the pivotal role DJs hold in shaping the genre’s foundation.

Taking to Twitter (X), DJ Ready D shared that the location where they filmed the music video holds immense sentimental value, emphasizing its role in fostering his passion and influence within SA Hip Hop. The “Back Like We Never Left” music video was filmed in Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, the very neighbourhood where the renowned DJ spent his formative years. It’s the same area where he honed his breakdancing skills and Deejaying skills, vital components of Hip Hop culture during that era.

“That’s the exact space where I used to practice my BBoy / Breakdancing skills in the 80’s & 90’s. It’s also the space where my life was spared. My mom’s house is in the background. It was special shooting this video with the best skilled people dedicated to Hip Hop.” DJ Ready D wrote.

The release of the video aligns with Reebok’s commemoration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. As a longstanding advocate of the genre, the brand collaborated with DJ Ready D and YoungstaCPT to produce both the track and video, incorporating elements from Reebok’s 50 Years of Hip Hop apparel collection.
