In his post, Tony shared how “Mlazi Baby” was heavily inspired by Pro Kid’s influential track “Uthini Ngo Pro,” one of the artist’s legendary hits that helped define an era in South African rap. Tony’s admiration for Pro Kid runs so deep that he used the same beat to craft the hook of his song while still in high school.

“Mlazi baby, track 3. 💕was heavily inspired by uthini ngo pro, even used the beat to write the hook. This was back in matric, 2022 when I first showed my people the song, oh what a star,” Tony Dayimane reminisced, reflecting on the moment he introduced the track to his friends and family for the first time. He described the pride he felt as they witnessed the birth of the track and saw the potential he had as a rising star in the music scene. Tony said, alluding to the journey he’s been on ever since that pivotal moment in his career.

Pro Kid’s influence on the current generation of artists is undeniable and for Tony Dayimane, channelling that energy in “Mlazi Baby” serves as both a tribute to a legend and a declaration of his growth as an artist. The fact that he began writing the hook as early as his matric year shows the dedication and passion that he has put into his craft, all while staying true to the roots that shaped his sound.
