Following the tragedy that occurred at Enyobeni Tavern in East London, when 21 young people died, with one of them being 13 years old, questions have been raised about who has been inciting young people to abuse alcohol.

The Enyobeni Tavern tragedy has been trending on social media and the blame has been directed at many people in high offices. Celebrities have also been dragged into the conversation as they are also being blamed for promoting alcohol consumption.

Mzansi celebrities have been accused of making alcohol glamorous, which is inciting young people to consume alcohol at an illegal age. “The problem started with our celebrities who made alcohol fashionable and cool. Young people see them as role models and they have a lot of influence. #EnyobeniTavern East London.” Reads the tweet.

AKA has emerged as one of the celebrities who have responded to the blame being placed on the entertainment industry. “Celebrities. It’s always their fault.” AKA responded. The Mzansi entertainment sector has been the core of alcohol brand promotion.

Over the years, there has been an increase in celebrities endorsing prominent and well-known alcohol brands. Rappers, media celebrities, athletes, and even fashion designers have gone from exploding bottles to emblazoning them with their names.

The likes of Cassper Nyovest and Boity have all moved to have their own alcohol brand under their own management. AKA is the latest rapper to follow the same route as he has put in place plans to launch his own alcohol brand very soon.
