Big Boi: ‘Gucci Mane Worked On My Solo Album, Not Outkast Project’

Big Boi: ‘Gucci Mane Worked On My Solo Album, Not Outkast Project’   clearing up reports suggesting OutKast are back in the studio after Gucci Mane boasted about recording new music with the stars. The mention of the low-key Atlanta, Georgia duo set alarm bells ringing for OutKast fans, who have been waiting for new tunes from Big Boi and Andre 3000 for almost a decade – they last appeared together on 2007’s International Players Anthem (I Choose You) with UGK.

The pair reunited for a 2014 festival tour, but no new material came from the summer get together. The OutKast stars did not comment on Gucci’s claim at the time, but now Big Boi has clarified the remarks, insisting the collaboration is just for his upcoming solo project. “Gucci is on this album, most definitely,” he explained to Creative Loafing Tampa. “He was just excited because the song was jammin’ like a motherf**ker.”

The studio get-together wasn’t the 41-year-old’s first with Gucci – the Wasted rapper, 36, previously worked with Big Boi on Shine Blockas from his solo disc, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, in 2010. OutKast have not released a studio album since 2003’s Speakerboxxx/The Love
