In the album, Maglera Doe Boy reflects on his upbringing and environment. Through this perspective, he delves into a deliberately eerie, opera-inspired sound accompanied by the chilling tones of “Memoirs.” The subsequent emotionally resonant strings in “Dor Do Povo” depict a grim and despairing reality that many youths face in the township.

In the track “Makazana,” the rapper vividly portrays the harsh realities of his neighbourhood, unravelling stories of crime and the persistent poverty in the township even after many years of democracy in South Africa. During an interview as part of his appearance on Channel O’s Deconstructed, the rapper delved into the chorus of the song “Makazana,” elucidating its significance to the current circumstances in the townships.

“Makazana is a song about how time can fly in the township and the township is not a black concept it is a gulag which is a concentration camp and that’s why it is positioned the way it is. From the bridges, so they could cut us off if we had war, to the trees so they could burn them if we had war,” he said.

“In the chorus, I say, ‘I spent my life In this township but I don’t want to die,’ which is we dont have to stay in the hood,” he added.

Maglera Doe Boy conveyed that his music transcends mere storytelling for financial gain; instead, it encapsulates the essence of township life and his upbringing. He emphasized that his music is not just a commodity, but a timeless narrative that will resonate with and motivate future generations.

“The bible says that the teachers will be persecuted for not teaching the right stuff. So i count myself and say that my art is not just for sale, its very much for preservation.”
