Up Close And Personal With Tol A$$ Mo

Tol A$$ Mo is one of the biggest comedians and T.V personalities who has become popular for his numerous appearances on t.v series. Mo is also involved in Hip Hop and calls himself a hype-man even though he recently dropped a hot single titled Volume. We got the opportunity to chat to the gentle brother and this is how it went:

Where did you grow up and what was your childhood like?

I grew up in tembisa its in the eastrand then we moved to Kempton park, my childhood was filled with so many memories of using my imagination as an escape from my reality

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

From everything around me, the people I meet everyday, my wife and kids, my fans and most of all God does the rest.

How do you prepare for your shows?

I take the meanest dump, cuz I have butterflies buzzing in my tummy, then I fall into a deep sleep, in that state I can visualize my performance and plan my set. Its a form of meditation it works for me all the time because it fells like I have done it before.

When did you realize that you wanted to be a comedian and what were the most important steps from there?

My best friend Stan parkies who has now passed on RIP. Introduced me to stand up comedy and how to be the best hip hop hype man, he then took me to blues room village walk Sandton it was a top notch place but the comedy scene was alive I asked around if I could do 5 minutes, Trevor Noah introduced me on to stage and the rest in histor.

When did you start rapping?

I’m not a rapper I’m a hype man so what I do in music is to give life to a beat.

What do you like most about the current state of hip hop in SA and what would you like to change?

The standards keep increasing and the public wants more exciting music to dance to, the current state of hip hop in SA is on the rise and us currently relevant across the globe.

How has watching SA Hip Hop grow shaped your perspective on the genre?

Its thought me to think everything through and to know that this is no joke the music business is so real.

How often do you write raps and how long does it take you to finish a song?

I make a track in a day and I don’t write my lyrics its of the top of my head.

What inspired you to make your single Volume and can we expect a music video?

Its that thing we as  people always go to the DJ and ask him to turn up the volume if your favorite song is playing, and the video is going to be funny fresh and fashion forward

When can we expect a full length project from Tall A$$ Mo?

In 2016 I will be dropping the album titled TAM Mu$ick.

How has being a father changed your perspective on life and art?

It has only made wana hustle harder and to mind the things I do and say in public.

Where do you like to hang out in Jozi?

I enjoy hanging out in Melville.

What do you do for fun?

I’m a PlayStation freak so I like playing my new PS4 games and especially playing online.

Free your mind seek for enlightenment, we are still not free.
