“It was all fake” – Focalistic On Why He Left Hip-Hop For Amapiano

Focalistic made a name for himself in the South African music scene with a series of successful Hip-Hop tracks that catapulted him to stardom. However, his recent pivot towards Amapiano, a rapidly growing genre known for its infectious beats and danceable tunes, took many by surprise. Now, the artist has shed light on the reasons behind his musical transition.

In an interview on Choppin It With Bhuda T Podcast, Focalistic was asked about his decision to hop onto the Yanos wave. “What would you say was the thing that said okay, actually and what were you seeing?” asked Zingah.

In response, the Ke Star hitmaker explained that his shift in musical direction wasn’t a deliberate choice; rather, it was a natural response to the songs he created with Snow Deep and Junior Taurus, which resonated with him more and led him to move away from South African Hip-hop.

“To be honest with you, it wasn’t like a decision, it was a feeling. Like I made a couple of songs with Snow Deep at the time, Junior Taurus. Then after, those are just the songs I’d repeat, I never wanted to listen to anyone’s hip-hop at the time because I felt like it was all fake you know,” Focalistic said.

The Pretoria-based rapper and Amapiano sensation said that Amapiano music is real life and it’s evident with all the music he has made. “On Piano, it could be real, like it could be real life. All the songs I’ve made are like real life, he added.

Speaking on what made him feel like SA Hip-hop was fake, Focalistic said; “It was a weird time, it was all pool party, call baddies, the girls aren’t event like that super fly, it’s like dawg just relax, do real life.”
