Maftown Artists React To North West Uni Burning Disaster

2016 has been a hectic year in terms of politics at all levels. Last year we saw protests around the country against the university fees hike. What’s crazy is the militant approach to things has been adopted into other areas students disagree with.

Since the student protests began around the whole country, we have seen several violent acts that have happened in different institutions. The trouble on the North West University campus in Mafikeng had started after the new SRC was inaugurated on Wednesday. The previous SRC was dissolved because management said it was not performing its duties. After the inauguration there were running battles between the university’s security and students who supported the previous SRC.

Rubber bullets and teargas were used to disperse the students then we woke up to horrifying images of the campus going up in flames on Wednesday! A lot of artists from the province have reacted to the students retaliation!
