Judge Quotes K.O & AKA’s Lyrics As She Makes A Ruling In A Defamation Case

In a surprising turn of events during a recent defamation case, the courtroom witnessed an unprecedented fusion of justice and music when the presiding Magistrate decided to spice up his ruling with quotes from K.O. and AKA‘s lyrics.

According to the IOL publication, Magistrate Katlego Mokoena made a ruling citing K.O’s lyrics on Run Jozi referring to some people’s compulsive desire to share everything on social media. The ruling came after the judge dismissed Pastor Mark Le Roux’s defamation case.

The case was filed after SPCA Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse made a comment on a September 2019 social media post after the complaint Le Roux shared a picture of him with a fresh buck kill behind his bakkie. In the ruling, the Judge mentioned the impact of social media indicating that it can make or break people’s careers and livelihood.

“Social media has cemented itself in our daily lives. Some are moved by the insatiable need to post anything and everything, educate, miseducate and even the negatives are shared. I pause and find this quote/lyrics from a prominent South African rapper relevant and befitting to the case at hand.

It reads: “Next thing you know your career is over ntwana, over some characters, it’s the juxtaposition of choosing stupidity over intelligence”, Mokoena said, quoting K.O’s verse on Run Jozi featuring AKA.

AKA passed away after he was shot dead in Durban and K.O has stressed how the death of his fellow rapper has impacted SA Hip-hop. “That gentleman was so polarizing, that like even when he doesn’t have a hard record going you can still feel his presence,” K.O said. “Whether it’s his antics on social media or just his private life and all those things that he was doing. So even beyond that for me as a man and as an artist, I’m not gonna lie to you I’ve pulled a lot from him just from a competitive standpoint, so whereas like, he did that, I’m gonna try to do that.”
