With a career that spans over a decade and a string of successful collaborations and solo projects under his belt, the seasoned artist shared his insights during a recent interview on Turbang Studios Podcast. The veteran rapper underscored the significance of treating Hip hop like a business instead of a hobby.

Maggz emphasized that the majority of up-and-coming rappers possess the necessary talent to break into the industry, suggesting that the key lies in adjusting their approach to how they handle their craft. “There are a lot of artists we meet year in and year out. A lot dont make it not because they are not dope, but they dont have the spirit for it,” Maggz said.

The rapper expressed that by adopting a business-oriented mindset toward the rap industry, most artists can expect to see substantial rewards, as opposed to approaching it as a mere hobby. “You need to treat this like a business, like something you love, not a hobby like ‘me and my friends are rapping after school’ If that’s where you gonna take it then that’s how it gonna treat you. You treat Hip hop like a business, it will pay you like a business. You live off it, but if you treat it like a hobby bro, that’s once in a while,” he added.

Maggz‘s profound observations illuminate the dynamic trajectory of the South African music scene, emphasizing the critical need for artists to embrace the shifting terrain. His articulate commentary serves as a call for aspiring rappers to navigate their artistic journeys with a holistic and calculated business perspective.
