Priddy Ugly Details How Features On His Album, ‘SOIL’ Happened. Priddy Ugly has one of the hottest hip hop albums out at the moment. SOIL is the rapper’s sophomore album and consists of 10 tracks and features several rappers who delivered dope verses. The rapper took to Twitter to share with his fans and followers, how he got to feature the artists that he did. The rapper explained that artists were hand-selected “based on talent and penmanship – not hype or clout.”
The Handful of Dust hitmaker shared that the first artist he wanted to feature was Zulu Mecca, who is on the track called Let Me Out. Priddy calls Zulu Mecca one of his favourite rappers on the continent, or “probably in the world”. The track Let Me Out is the only song on the album, that Priddy recorded with the featured artist in the studio.
Priddy Ugly then went on to explain how track 7, Dead Jungle featuring Blxckie and H-D came about. The rapper explained mid-last year he met Blxckie at a studio session at Dr. Peppa’s studio and became an instant fan. Months later Priddy reached out to the Hold hitmaker and sent him the song and in a few hours, Blxckie sent back his verse. However, as complete as the song was, Priddy and his team still “wanted to add a different dynamic & edge to it.” Priddy then thought of H-D who hails from Brooklyn, New York as he thought he was fire and “could tie up the ‘Dead Jungle’ concept perfectly.”
The track, Rap Relay which features Maglera Doe Boy, almost didn’t feature him as it was initially intended for a different artist Meekz Manny from Manchester, UK. However, the UK rapper, at the time was really busy and was travelling, which resulted in the song taking “a backseat” and almost did not make the album.
Priddy then explains that before the album was submitted to the distributor, he sent Maglera Doe Boy, who he was trying to find a spot for on the album, the track Rap Relay. Getting Maglera’s verse done was a mission, as Priddy and his team were up against time and the recording session was taking place in Cape Town. Priddy goes on to reveal that the young rapper, wrote his verse during his trip from Jozi to Cape Town and it was complete fire, completing the album.
A month later, Zoocci Coke Dope joined the team after they were done with the album, to give it that “extra special touch, ear and expertise”. Priddy explains that the hit producer came in and “made the sonics of the album hit the roof”. The rapper goes on to praise Zoocci’s work ethic, he explains that Zoocci had just come from working on other artist projects yet he still “had high level focus & 1000% commitment to seeing #SOIL be the best it could possible be.”
