Blxckie Finally Releases Long-Awaited Sophomore Album ‘YENA’

Blxckie Finally Releases Long-Awaited Sophomore Album ‘YENA.’ South African hip-hop star Blxckie has officially entered a new chapter in his career with the release of his highly anticipated second studio album, YENA, now available worldwide through Somnyama Music Entertainment and EMPIRE.

Arriving five years after his gold-certified debut album B4Now, the 15-track project captures an artist who has spent the past few years sharpening his sound, exploring his musical identity and finding new ways to express himself. More than just another addition to his catalogue, YENA represents Blxckie’s growth as a rapper, singer and all-round musician.
The album’s title carries a deeply personal meaning, connecting to his long-standing identity as Somnyama Yena Yedwa. Staying true to that identity, Blxckie has positioned himself at the centre of the project, using its songs to reflect his artistic journey while showcasing his evolving delivery, melodic versatility and creative direction.
Ahead of the release, the Durban-born rapper gave listeners a glimpse into the album’s rollout by sharing its official tracklist alongside a heartfelt message expressing gratitude for their patience and continued support.
“‘YENA’ this Friday. 💚 thank you for your patience, i owe you everything. uthando alupheli nanini,” he wrote.
The Zulu phrase, which translates to “love never ends,” offered a glimpse into the appreciation behind the release, acknowledging the people who have remained with him throughout the wait.
Musically, YENA moves between introspection, melodic experimentation and high-energy hip-hop, opening with the warm and reassuring “mama, it’s all good.” From there, Blxckie takes listeners through a collection of tracks that explore different moods while maintaining the distinct sound that has helped establish him as one of South African hip-hop’s notable voices.
Among the project’s standout collaborations is “bonkerz,” featuring fellow rapper A-Reece, bringing together two artists whose individual styles have made them prominent figures in the local rap scene. American rapper Bas joins Blxckie on the smoother “cover me,” while Nigerian singer L.A.X features on “lonely,” a track that was released ahead of the album.
The rapper also keeps things close to home with “dradi,” featuring fellow Durban artist Usimamane, while KindlyNxsh joins him on “let em have it.” Meanwhile, “brady’s interlude” highlights his continued creative connection with producer K1llbrady.
Beyond the collaborations, the remaining tracks add further depth to the album’s range. Songs such as “take me back,” “mr party,” “uphi?,” “welcome to the function,” “vul’ amehlo (open ur eyes),” “wala (wa)” and “die tomorrow” contribute to a tracklist that moves between reflection, celebration and observations about life.
The project’s artwork reinforces its sense of transition, depicting a solitary figure standing before a glowing green doorway surrounded by darkness. The image evokes the feeling of standing at the entrance to something new, an appropriate visual for an artist stepping into another phase of his musical journey.
Over the years, Blxckie has continued to expand his catalogue through releases, mixtapes, EPs and collaborations, steadily building a name for himself in an ever-changing hip-hop landscape. With YENA, he brings that journey into focus, offering listeners a fuller picture of where he stands creatively and where his sound could go next.
Now available on all major streaming platforms, YENA invites listeners to experience Blxckie on his own terms, with a project that places his identity, growth and musical vision firmly in the spotlight.
