Reason Responds To Criticism Of Him Appearing On ‘Amapiano Hip Hop Cypher’

Reason Responds To Criticism Of Him Appearing On ‘Amapiano Hip Hop Cypher. Supporters are not always easy to please, many are always finding fault with something their favourite SA Hip Hop artist has done or is involved in. Award-winning rapper Reason certainly wasn’t expecting any backlash when he appeared on a segment on MTV Base called, Amapiano Hip-Hop Cypher. A fan wasn’t too pleased with Reason’s inclusion on the cypher and took to Twitter to share his criticism.

Reason has previously taken part in cyphers for MTV Base and BET Africa and his participation in this cypher was nothing out of the ordinary but it seems the title of the cypher is the problem. The cypher featured amapiano artists Young Stunna and Buzzi Lee along, with Sizwe Alakine whose inclusion was taken as a jab to SA Hip Hop. Reason was accused by a fan of disrespecting the culture by taking part in the cypher. “How you letting them shit on the culture like that bruh?” shared the critic. The rapper responded that he didn’t understand why he would be crucified for doing so, as he was doing what he has always done.

He also revealed that he was didn’t know that’s what the cypher would be called. “Honestly, I didn’t know it would be called that. But I also don’t understand why you would want to crucify ME for it being called that. I’m not @MTVBaseSouth,” tweeted the rapper. It seems that Reason is getting tired of being dragged into politics as he also let the fan know not to involve him in but the quality of his raps. “I did what I’ve always done. Which is to rap on their cyphers. Don’t involve me in anything else. But the quality of rap,” he added.

Reason, who also goes by the name Sizwe Alakine, is currently riding the amapiano wave and has released music with DJ Maphorisa. The two artists collaborated on Sizwe Alkaine’s first amapiano drop, Khanda Shisa, the rapper has even dropped the visuals for the song. The Twitter user in his criticism noted that he did not mind that Reason was doing amapiano music. “I don’t mind the fact that @ReasonHD has switched to piano. But to go from being a voice of Hip-Hop and a Rap culture representative to purposely attending a cypher called “Amapiano Hip-Hop Cypher”?” wrote the critic.

Several Hip Hop supporters also weighed in on the cypher, some felt it should have been just named Amapiano Cypher as Amapiano is a genre of its own and even though some artists rap on Amapiano beats, it is not relative to Hip Hop. SA Hip Hop artists such as Nasty C and Shane Eagle have appeared on Bet Africa’s Hip Hop cyphers.
