Cassper Responds To Claims That Celebrity Culture Does Not Exist In Gauteng. Cassper Nyovest has weighed in on the debate around celebrity culture in Gauteng after a social media user claimed that living in the province quickly makes you realise that “celebrity” status does not really exist.

The conversation began when X user @Chase_Sithole posted, “Gauteng will make you realise ukuthi lento yobu Celebrity Ayikho,” suggesting that celebrities in Gauteng are not treated differently from ordinary people.
Cassper responded by comparing the experience to Los Angeles, arguing that even Hollywood’s biggest stars can move through the city without constantly attracting attention.
“It’s the same in LA. You just don’t live there. Lol, I mean celebrities are just normal people who are celebrated for a certain talent, achievement or influence nje. Yall expect paparazzi?? Causing a frenzy? Like what is it really?” he wrote.
The rapper then questioned why there appears to be such an interest in downplaying the status of South African celebrities.
“Why are some people obsessed with trying to humble South African Celebrities? Like shap shap flopo ke eng? Everywhere we have a listers, b listers, c listers. I mean it’s culture. Some are more famous than others but still you know them mos. Is it cause ha re na zaka? What?” Cassper added.
The debate intensified when some users argued that the level of attention surrounding international stars such as Drake would be completely different from what a local celebrity experiences in Gauteng.
Cassper responded by sharing an experience from one of his visits to Los Angeles. He recalled being at a restaurant when Drake arrived for dinner, saying that he and his South African companions were among the few people who noticed the rapper.
“We were the only ones who noticed him cause we were from S.A of course. Everyone else just went about the evening and just had dinner. Same thing that happens here,” he explained.
The exchange has since fueled a broader conversation on X about what celebrity status actually looks like in South Africa compared to major entertainment hubs such as Los Angeles.
While some users believe local stars enjoy a much more relaxed level of fame, others argue that celebrity status does not necessarily mean being followed by paparazzi or causing crowds wherever an artist goes.
For Cassper, fame ultimately comes down to recognition for what someone has achieved or the influence they have built. The absence of public chaos does not necessarily mean the absence of celebrity culture.
